Our friends at Tour the Towpath are gearing up for their annual ride, and it is shaping up to be one for the books! Over 130 riders have registered for the event so far, and there's still time to sign up for the 1- to 2-day event. Make the most of the gorgeous late summer weather expected this weekend - great riding conditions will be complemented by an incredible lineup of activities planned along the route, including:
- BBQ and live music provided by Madison Bistro in Wampsville
- Overnight campers at the Zems Ice Cream campsite in Canastota will be treated to craft beer tastings by Erie Canal Brewing and a live performance by Classic Groove
- Fort Rickey Children's Discovery Zoo in Rome will be kicking off their Fall Festival on Saturday the 23rd (located just off the canal path!)
- The Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum will be featuring live blacksmith demonstrations
Of course, we're most excited about the special ELEVATING ERIE ride extension offered this year as part of the bicentennial celebration of the Erie Canal! All riders will have the option to continue beyond the traditional route end point (and canal trail end point) in DeWitt to the World Canals Conference kickoff at the Syracuse Inner Harbor on Sunday the 24th. This portion of the ride will be on-road and led by the Town of DeWitt Director of Planning and Zoning, Sam Gordon.
Day-of registration is available for this family-friendly, fully supported ride. Check out the Tour the Towpath website for more information including ride options, rates, and the full gamut of activities available to participants!
